Telecentre.org Foundation website is live

Beginning Monday, May 30, http://www.telecentre.org will be home to Telecentre.org Foundation's official corporate website while the English community site will be moved to its new address at http://community.telecentre.org. The Arabic Website will be http://mogtamaa.telecentre.org. The new website is expected to offer visitors easier access to information on the Foundation's programme pillars, core activities, and many more. Read more

Sudan and Sudan telecentres participating in WSIS 2011, Outcome Document

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2011 forum was held 16 – 20 May 2011 in ILO building in Geneva. It is an annual forum organized by ITU, UNESCO, UNCTAD, and UNDP. More than 1150 delegates from 150 countries including 20 ministers, 80 parliament members, more than 30 UN agencies and high level delegations  are involved in the forum.  All stakeholders are working in turning targets into action and working to bridge the digital divide to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) through the 11 action lines of WSIS implementation (Geneva 2003) by 2015. High level of partnership between the government, private sector and civil society is achieved.

ICT is very essential in the socio-economic development through e-agriculture, e-health, e-inclusion , e-education  so more than 100 sessions were held discussing these topics. The opening ceremony  started with welcoming remarks from the organizers. Dr. Hamdoun Toure the secretary general of ITU among the speakers and Dr. Tim Unwin from royal Holloway, university of London was the master of the ceremony.  Following a high level session about working together

Three delegates from Sudan presented a workshop about Sudan and Sudan Telecentre role in WSIS implementation on Tuesday 17 May, 11:30-13:00, Room IX.  There were three potential panelists moderated by Mohamed al-Mortada the minster in the mission of Sudan. Eng. Mubarak Mohamed Ahmed (government) the director general of Sudan national information centre. He spoke about the role of Ministry of communication and Information Technology (MCIT)  In the ICT e-infrastructure in Sudan,,  he talked about  the Policy and Legislations, he briefed the audience with the universal fund and its financial resources and how they spend this money.

The 2nd speaker was Dr. Abdelmageed Mohamed chair of digital city of Darfur (DDCO – NGO founded in January 2011) He spoke about ICT penetration highlights and  the importance of PPP in connecting rural area and the expected potential of DDCO in Darfur. As an expert of ICT he talked about the telecommunication companies, the optics fiber and internet penetration in Sudan.

The third speaker was Eng. Ahmed Mahmoud M. Eisa Chair of Gedaref digital city organization (GDCO) the winner of information for development award i4d in India for three successive years 2007, 2008, 2009. GDCO is founded in partnership with the digital city of Eindhoven DSE and more than 750 computers were donated. It is the founder of the first Telecentre academy in Africa and Middle East and the thirteen in world (Sudan National Telecentre Academy – SuNTA).  He talked about the role of telecentre.org network in the implementation of WSIS action lines and the 8MDGs. He spoke about the innovative global Telecentre Academy GTA and its role in training, capacity building and skill development for Telecentre mangers, operator . the campaign of training one million women and one million Telecentre mangers, operators and community leaders.  He brief the audience about the PPP projects in GDCO specially the e-agriculture, e-education and Gedaref university support, out of schoolchildren e-learning project, telemedicine  and include the excluded projects. He present  a short film about GDCO project and how they are in the right tracks on the WSIS action line and achieve part of the 8MDGs .

Gedaref digital city organization (GDCO) has an exhibition for 2nd time in the WSIS with two stands about GDCO projects and two posters (one is about Telecentre.org network and the other is about Sudan government e-infrastructure. Also many brochures were distributed and many new partnership were developed.

Sudan and Sudan Telecentre role in WSIS implementation workshop

The  workshop was held in Tuesday 17 May, 11:30-13:00, Room IX.  There were three   potential panelists
(1) Eng. Mubarak Mohamed ahmed, (NTC government),  the director general of Sudan national information centre. He spoke about the role of Ministry of communication and Information Technology (MCIT)  In the ICT infrastructure in Sudan,,  he talked about  the Policy and Legislations, he briefed the audience with the information supporting fund and its financial resources and how they spend this money, Sudan choose privatization of the ICT sector and the PPP model of governing the sector. There are  3 mobile companies and fixed lines  companies with more than 20,000 Km fiber optic and 18 million of active subscribers by 2010. There are many ICT projects implemented in Sudan  www.nic.gov.sd  including  National Data Center Project, Sudan e-government portal project (Sudan Gate) www.sudan.sd ,  E-Health project  www.seham.sd , Digital Certificate project.(Draft e-authentication) , Universal Number Project , Higher Education Project. www.mohe.gov.sd , Sudanese Computer driving license certificate project. The Free/Open Source Software Project, Capacity building project. (Training Center of Information Technology and Communications), PC for every family project. Computer lab for every Secondary School project., E-community service (Tele-centers) project. States Information system Project www.statedb.gov.sd and GIS Project.www.gisc.gov.sd and he finished with the challenges facing these project to be replicated and sustainable to bridge the digital gap.

There are  3 mobile companies and two fixed lines  companies, 2500  Towns and  village are covered by telecom services , all Banks connected through national data network , 50% of the cities are covered by fiber optic network (20,000 kilometer). He talked about the role of NGOs in the PPP and the Next Generation RURAL ICT PLATFORM.

DDCO at Eindhoven

The president of GDCO visited the digital city of Eindhoven and met with DSE board members in the presence of Dr. EGBERT the president of DSE. a brief discussion about GDCO projects including telecentre academy, out of school children, e-education and gedaref university support. He also introduced Darfur Digital City Org. DDCO and discussed about ways to support DDCO.

Today, a national forum of ICT will be held in Sinnar state in the slogan of (States without papers .... Sinnar is the start), and many high representatives of the government, ICT authorities, NGOs, and private sectors will contribute among the event. The contributors will discuss many papers in the first and the second day beside report discussions from all Sudan states
